Job Description
Summary: Essential job functions are to perform professional and technical work managing the urban forestry initiatives of the City Park Conservancy. Plans, manages and implements all urban forestry and arboricultural operations throughout New Orleans City Park. Will work across the entire park and will work across Departments within the park. The position will spend up to 60% of the time in the field and will be a direct report to the Director of Park Grounds.

Working knowledge of computers;
Ability to read and comprehend maps;
Ability to work independently;
Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and make minor repairs;
Ability to safely operate equipment;
Ability to lead others;
Ability to work outside with regular exposure to severe weather, noxious fumes, high levels of dust, etc;
Ability to comprehend and abide to safety practices;
Ability to maintain effective relationships with citizens, park guests, employees and supervisors;
Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
Operates equipment engaged in complex and routine maintenance and construction projects;
Interprets construction plans;
Performs equipment maintenance and troubleshooting equipment issues;
May serve as a supervisor leading a team in the absence of a supervisor
Cleaning and maintenance of equipment and tools used throughout the daily course of work.
May be required to assist with mowing, edging, weed eating and blowing of all assigned areas.
Basic understanding of mechanical operation of all equipment and ability to communicate to mechanic and repairs or maintenance needed.
Assisting other team members and departments as necessary
Supports and actively promotes New Orleans City Park’s safety programs.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and group situations.
Spraying of herbicides may be required under supervisor guidance.

Physical Demands:

Body agility is emphasized. Balancing and maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on moving surfaces is required. Stooping, climbing, bending at the waist, crouching, kneeling, reaching, walking, pushing and pulling is required for this position.
The employee will frequently be required to complete repeated motions that may include the wrists, hands, or fingers. Fingering, grasping, and feeling objects are required. The ability to safely operate machinery, power tools, and motor vehicles or heavy equipment will occur occasionally. The employee must constantly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds of force and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently in all directions.
The employee is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operating machinery where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks such as technicians and mechanics, and operating heavy machinery. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
The ability to speak and hear is required. The employee must be able to exchange ideas using the spoken word, in which they must convey detailed instructions to others to constantly exchange information and assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. The employee must have the ability to hear sounds at a normal speaking level with or without correction, including the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.

The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
