Founded in 2004 and named for the first African-American woman to earn her Ph.D. in Mathematics, the award-winning E.L. Haynes Public Charter School serves over 1,135 students in grades Pre-K3 through 12th grade. We operate two campuses in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington, DC, and offer a rigorous educational program designed to prepare students for college success. Academic Program We offer a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum from Pre-K through 12, designed to develop kind, curious, lifelong learners and social justice leaders. Learn more about our academic program here. You Will Plan and deliver instruction based on E.L. Haynes' standards, curriculum, and assessment data. Conduct and analyze student performance assessments. Collaborate with teachers, including special education and ELL staff, to support students. Create a positive classroom culture emphasizing relationships. Engage families in student success. Lead a student advisory group for community, social, emotional, and academic support. Participate in school events and other duties outside regular hours. Qualifications You Have: Bachelor’s degree in a Science-related field. At least two years of teaching in an urban setting. Understanding of standards-based curriculum and assessment. Ability to foster a supportive classroom environment. Experience using models and exemplars in instruction. Strong collaboration skills. You Might Also Have: Washington, D.C. teaching certification. Background in differentiated, student-centered instruction. Experience with experiential or project-based learning. Data-driven instruction experience. Proficiency in another language. Master's degree in education or related field.
