Job Description

Clean Harbors is seeking a Cost Accountant to be responsible for reviewing, reconciling, and maintaining a variety of accounting and financial data and information, including assisting with financial closings, preparing a variety of reports and records of assets and liabilities, and other financial transactions, balancing books periodically. The Cost Accountant is responsible for the more complex accounts and tasks which involve experience, judgment and independent decision making.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support month-end closing, including closing of financial books, preparing reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and posting journal entries to specialized accounts involving Inventory.
  • Prepare analyses of balance sheet accounts involving Inventory to assist business operations understand how the company is performing. 
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual standards. Supporting manufacturing and Recycling segments; building cost of finished goods.
  • Responsible for preparing supporting documentation needed for management, internal and external auditors, and any other requirement pertaining to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX).
  • Answers questions from external auditors and provide support as needed.
  • Identify potential control deficiencies, procedural changes that have occurred or may occur which may require update to SOX documentation, and suggesting improvements to the financial control environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance/Related field
  • 3+ years of experience in a General accounting role
  • Basic accounting knowledge and/or understanding of cost accounting principles. Ability to apply that knowledge to unique and complex circumstances.
  • Able to recognize and investigate unusual variances in complex balance sheet accounts.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel
  • Proficiency in Oracle or similar ERP software (very desirable)
  • Ability to multi-task and to meet deadlines
  • Able to maintain confidentiality
