Job Title: Licensed Customs Broker

Location: Houston, TX, USA

Work Type: Hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days work-from-home per week)

Company Background: Our organization is a well-established freight forwarding company expanding its operations into the United States, with a new office in Houston. They specialize in facilitating international trade, providing comprehensive logistics solutions, and ensuring compliance with customs regulations for our clients.

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Customs Broker to join the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing customs clearance processes, ensuring compliance with U.S. customs laws, and facilitating the smooth transition of goods for our clients. This role requires a deep understanding of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, international trade laws, and logistics operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customs Clearance: Prepare, review, and submit customs declarations, entries, and related documentation for the importation of goods into the U.S.
  • Compliance: Ensure all activities are in compliance with U.S. customs regulations, including duties, taxes, and tariffs. Stay updated with changes in customs laws and practices.
  • Client Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on customs-related matters, providing advice and guidance to ensure compliance and optimal service.
  • Documentation: Manage and archive all customs-related documents, ensuring they are accurate and available for audits.
  • Problem Solving: Handle any customs-related issues or discrepancies, including working directly with CBP and other government agencies to resolve clearance delays or regulatory queries.
  • Tariff Classification: Classify goods correctly under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) to ensure proper duty assessment.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain professional relationships with customs officials, freight forwarders, carriers, and other stakeholders.
  • Training and Education: Keep abreast of industry trends, new regulations, and best practices; potentially share knowledge with team members to enhance collective understanding.

Qualifications:

  • License: Must hold an active U.S. Customs Broker License.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in a customs brokerage or related field within the freight forwarding industry.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Skills:
  • Proficient in customs software (e.g., ACE, ABI).
  • Strong understanding of Incoterms, ISF filings, and other import/export documentation.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Language: Proficiency in English. Knowledge of Spanish is a plus given the geographical context and potential client base.
