About WDAM: WDAM 7 is the dominant television and digital media station in Hattiesburg, Laurel, and the Pine Belt of Mississippi.
Job Summary/Description: WDAM 7 - On Your Side - is looking for a primary news anchor and storyteller. The successful candidate will report weekly and co-anchor our 5:00 P.M., 6:00 P.M., and 6:30 P.M. newscasts Monday through Friday. They will also solo anchor the 10:00 P.M. newscast. Candidates must be energetic, and driven, have solid news judgment, and have strong reporting, and have live skills. Candidates must be able to tell difficult stories and be creative - adapting to various news stories.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- A leader in the newsroom and excels at breaking news coverage from the studio and in the field.
- Candidate must also be aggressive and consistent with coverage online and with social media on all platforms.
- The candidate must turn in special reports.
- He or she must be skilled to shoot & edit their own stories.
- Candidate must have at least 5 years of reporting/broadcast experience including anchoring.
- These skillsets must be demonstrated in past working experiences - contributing consistently on Facebook, Twitter as well as Facebook LIVE and strong writing for the NEWS APP and website.
- Exceptional planning, developing story ideas, and creative storytelling are a must.
- Candidates must be a self-starter, demonstrate urgency to their delivery as well as possess very strong writing skills.
- Candidate must be willing to work with young journalists
Qualifications/Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field
- 5+ years experience in reporting and anchoring
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficient with video, camera equipment, Edius Editing, ENPS, and Social Media
- Self-motivated and highly organized
