Returning AmeriCorps Coaches at College Possible are seasoned leaders who bring a wealth of experience and mastery to their roles. As peer leaders, they provide guidance and mentorship to new coaches, helping them navigate the complexities of their positions and develop the skills necessary for success. With a deep understanding of the College Possible model, returners are able to model best practices in coaching, communication, and student engagement, setting a high standard for others to follow.

In addition to their leadership responsibilities, returning coaches are critical to the continued growth and impact of the program. They are experts in managing caseloads, designing and facilitating workshops, and implementing strategies that drive student success. As role models, they inspire both new coaches and students by demonstrating commitment, resilience, and a passion for service. Their experience ensures that they are not only effective in their individual contributions but also invaluable resources for building a strong, collaborative team culture within the College Possible community.

Returner AmeriCorps Success Coach Responsibilities

Returner Success Coaches serve from a partner college/university and provide in-person support to undergraduate students. They assist students in remaining enrolled in college through graduation and help ensure they have the necessary tools and resources to succeed through the following primary functions:

  1. Provide one-on-one support and guidance to students
  • Assist students in developing personalized success plans, focusing on academics, career readiness, and social-emotional well-being.
  • Help students manage time effectively, set goals, and navigate academic challenges.
  • Offer guidance on college policies, resources, and strategies for overcoming obstacles, ensuring students understand and access necessary services for success.
  • Address personal, social, and financial challenges that may affect students' college persistence and completion.

Coordinate group events that enhance student success and persistence

  • Host virtual workshops and webinars focused on topics such as academic success strategies, career development, mental health, and financial literacy.
  • Coordinate peer-to-peer support opportunities, including study groups or mentorship initiatives.
  • Partner with campus resources to provide workshops or presentations on key topics such as tutoring, career counseling, and academic advising.

Build and maintain relationships with students and campus partners

  • Regularly check in with assigned students through one-on-one coaching sessions, maintaining open communication channels for ongoing support.
  • Work closely with faculty, academic advisors, and student services to stay informed about students' academic progress and any additional resources or support needed.
  • Foster a supportive community that encourages peer collaboration and a sense of belonging among students.

Represent the AmeriCorps program

  • Provide direct service via remote coaching sessions, logging hours accurately in the OnCorps online reporting system.
  • Adhere to all guidelines of AmeriCorps and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
  • Display the AmeriCorps logo in all communications and events associated with College Possible.

Utilize tools and resources to track student progress and outcomes

  • Regularly track and report key progress indicators for each student to ensure effective caseload management and support.
  • Collaborate with program staff to assess student needs and use data-driven approaches to provide individualized support.
  • Share relevant updates on student progress, challenges, and successes with program staff through regular reporting or meetings.

Maintain expertise in strategies for college success and persistence

  • Participate in pre-service and in-service training, both virtually and in person, to build expertise in supporting college students.
  • Seek out and engage in additional professional development opportunities that enhance skills in student support, higher education resources, and coaching strategies.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of one AmeriCorps term with College Possible.
  • A bachelor's degree obtained between 2020 and 2025 and/or does not exceed the age of 32 by August 2025
  • Ability and willingness to work hours that coincide with a typical school day for educators, as well as some night and weekend hours
  • Have not completed more than two, full-time terms with an AmeriCorps State and National Program

Annual Compensation

  • Bi-weekly pay of $961.54 ( annual rate, pending final budget approvals)
  • $7,395 Segal Education Award (approximate)
