Job Description

The Global Ordering and Distribution team at Amazon is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a team developing our global inventory planning and ordering systems, which orchestrate the acquisition and distribution of globally sourced goods. In this role, you will partner closely with business stakeholders, product managers, other engineering teams, and research scientists to shape the future of our import ordering services, which enable Amazon to reduce sourcing costs and improve selection to delight our customers. Our team is part of the Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) organization. SCOT owns Amazon's global inventory sourcing & planning systems. We decide what, when, where, how much and from whom we should buy to meet the diverse needs of our global customer base. We do this for millions of items, for hundreds of product lines worth billions of dollars of inventory world-wide. Our systems are built entirely in-house and feature the latest innovations in automated large scale supply chain sourcing, planning, and optimization systems.

Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Manager in the Global Ordering team, you will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of software engineers focused on building the next generation of import ordering solutions. You will work closely with product and business stakeholders to set the vision for this space, while driving the technical strategy and roadmap for the systems. An important aspect of your role will be ensuring operational excellence and reliability of mission-critical infrastructure. You will partner with business stakeholders and senior leaders to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions, while fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and technical excellence within your team.

A day in the life
Here's what you could be doing on a daily basis:
- Thinking big and working with leadership, cross teams and business stakeholders to define strategy and roadmap.
- Facilitating the design and architecture of the distributed and highly scalable services needed to solve supply chain problems in this space
- Delivering on the product roadmap while managing the full software development lifecycle of the services.
- Coaching, mentoring and developing some of the smartest engineers in the world.
- Owning the inputs and the business outcome through cultivating a culture of relentless auditing and metric monitoring, automatically where possible.

About the team
This position is in Amazon's Global Ordering and Distribution team, where we're revolutionizing supply chain management by building sophisticated systems that manage inventory at a global scale. The team is responsible for building systems to support planning and distribution of cross region procurable inventory and increase Long Term Free Cash Flow (LTFCF) through savings for Direct Imports (DI).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
