The VP or Director of Nuclear Engineering will work directly with the senior management team, including the CEO and COO, as well as EVP of Engineering Emeritus, and Chief Scientist, two of the most experienced space professionals in Canada. The position will support activities including Reactor Design and Development, Reactor Physics, Nuclear Engineering, and will require a strong understanding of the nuclear business, policy, economics and regulatory environment. Previous experience with new nuclear and micro-reactors is highly advantageous. The role will will involve a mix of project management, problem solving, engineering, prototyping, technical drawings, producing studies and technical reports, as well as business development. The candidate will be expected to lead engineering efforts, both managing and working with a team(s).
Main Responsibilities
· Develop nuclear systems and technologies for commercial applications in civil, defence, and space.
· Professionally project manage multiple concurrent projects, including dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
· Both lead and support nuclear regulatory and approvals processes, working with CNSC, AECL, CNL and others.
· Provide support for business-related activities, including project management, proposal development, and stakeholder engagement.
· Manage and carry out all relevant work packages in support of projects (e.g. study design, data collection, data interpretation and formulating additional work packages in pursuit of project goals).
· To produce research reports and deliverables related to the project.
· Technical writing in support of proposals, studies, and RFPs, as well as ongoing projects.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills Essential
· Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field.
· 10-15 years of experience working in a relevant industry for a nuclear energy company, engineering firm, or nuclear power consulting; preference given for hands on engineering experience.
· A solid understanding of the nuclear business, policy, economics, and regulatory environment.
· A proven track record of nuclear licensing work, including working with the CNSC through various regulatory processes, such as PDR, VDR, etc...
· A solid understanding of the nuclear business, policy, economics, and regulatory environment.
· Previous experience working within a nuclear management system and quality assurance environment.
· Technical skills in thermal and multi-physics analysis.
· Strong background in CFD simulations and their applications.
· Software skills required: CAD, COMSOL, Ansys, among others.
· Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
· A solid track-record of mechatronics engineering, including robotics systems and automation and control.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
· Passion for space exploration and commercialization.
· Great communication and collaboration skills.
· Excellent time management, documentation and organizational abilities.
The candidate must be a highly motivated self starter, capable of working through complex issues to solve problems that are not off the shelf. They should be capable of moving through setbacks and finding ways to persevere. Exceptional excel, powerpoint and communication skills are essential .
Must be eligible to work in Canada , and able to attain appropriate security clearances requisite with an aerospace & nuclear company of this type, and commensurate nuclear engineering position. Candidates will be subject to background checks.
